Hyaluronic acids consist of chains of sugar molecules and can bind many times their own weight in water. Because they, as fillers, replenish the skin’s water reservoirs, they correct volume deficits and restore lost elasticity to the skin.
In our practice, we use liquid, biodegradable hyaluronic acid fillers with different degrees of cross-linking, which are produced biosynthetically through the fermentation of microorganisms. The degree of cross-linking of the hyaluronic acids influences the viscosity and the lifting capacity of the preparation. Low cross-linked hyaluronic acids are more liquid, have a low lifting capacity, and primarily increase the water-binding capacity. Highly cross-linked hyaluronic acids are gel-like, have a high lifting capacity, and therefore compensate for volume deficits. All materials used in our dermatological practice are bio-identical, which means their allergenic potential is extremely low. We exclusively use very well-documented brand products. We inject extremely low cross-linked hyaluronic acid in the finest micro-droplets over large areas into skin regions that show signs of dehydration. This achieves deep hydration of the tissue, the ideal skin booster.
The hyaluronic acid fillers can be injected deep into the tissue using sharp needles in the so-called depot technique. This technique is very well suited for volume restoration or facial contouring. For more superficial wrinkle patterns or for filling the tear trough, fan techniques using blunt cannulas are excellently suited. The advantage is an extremely low risk of injuring blood vessels.
To avoid pain, we apply a topical anaesthetic gel beforehand. After a thorough analysis of the facial contours, we inject the appropriate hyaluronic acid directly under the skin where volume loss has occurred. The preparations we use also contain local anaesthetics, so that the injections are barely noticeable.
Small bleedings and swelling may occur at the injection sites. However, they subside after a few days and can be covered with make-up immediately after the treatment. With hyaluronic acid injections in the lip region, visible swelling may occur during the first 48 hours, which then subsides.
Effects are already visible immediately after the treatment. Due to the water-binding capacity of the hyaluronic acid preparation, they intensify in the first few weeks after the treatment. The treatment is effective for approximately four to six months, after which the body naturally breaks down the hyaluronic acids. The filler effect on the lips and tear troughs can last up to twelve months.
Hylase or Hyaluronidases are enzymes that break down hyaluronic acids. They are available in various concentrations and are dissolved with saline solution. To dissolve wrongly placed hyaluronic acid depots or swelling after injections, we can inject small amounts of the active substance there using very fine needles. The result is immediately visible and increases slightly over the course of the following hours.
