Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Hyaluronic acids consist of sugar molecule chains and can bind with many times their own weight with water. Because they fill the skin’s water reservoirs, they correct volume deficits and restore lost elasticity to the skin.

In our practice we use liquid, degradable hyaluronic acid fillers with multiple cross-links, which are produced biosynthetically through microorganism fermentation. The degree of cross-linking of the hyaluronic acids influences the viscosity and the lifting power of the preparation. Low cross-linked hyaluronic acids are more liquid, have a lower lifting force and primarily increase the water storage capacity. Strongly cross-linked hyaluronic acids are gel-like, have a higher lifting force and can compensate for volume deficits. All materials used are body-identical, so there is a very low potential for allergy development. We only use well recognised product brands.

This is an extremely low cross-linked hyaluronic acid which is injected in very fine microdroplets over a large area into skin showing signs of dryness. This results in the deep hydration of the tissue.

The fillers can be injected deep into the tissue using pointed cannulae in a so-called tower or depot technique. These techniques are suitable for building volume or for facial contouring. In the case of superficial wrinkles or for filling the tear ducts, these cannulae are considered extremely suitable. They also provide the advantage of an extremely low risk of injury to the blood vessels.

In order to avoid any pain, we apply a local anaesthetic gel prior to the treatment. After a thorough analysis of the facial contours, we apply the appropriate hyaluronic acid directly under the skin where volume loss has occurred. The products we use also contain local anaesthetics, so that the punctures are hardly noticeable.

Small amounts of bleeding and swelling can occur at the puncture sites. However, they disappear after a few days and can be covered with make-up immediately after the treatment. With lip injections, visible swelling can occur in the first 48 hours but will disappear again.

The first effects are visible immediately after the treatment and are intensified by hyaluronic acid’s ability to bind water in the first weeks after the treatment. The treatment lasts about four to six months, after which the hyaluronic acid is broken down naturally. The filling of lips and tear ducts can last up to twelve months.

Hylase or hyaluronidase is an enzyme that break down hyaluronic acids. It is available in different concentrations and is dissolved in a salt solution. In order to dissolve incorrectly placed hyaluronic acid depots or swellings after injections, we can inject small amounts of the active substance with very fine needles. The result is immediately visible and increases slightly over the course of the following hours.

We offer this treatment if there are severe swellings and deformities after injecting with hyaluronic acid. This can be the case, for example, if an excessively water-binding, viscous hyaluronic acid product has been used. If you are not satisfied with the results of your treatment, hyaluronic acid can be re-dissolved. It is important that only small amounts of hylase are administered in low concentrations in making corrections, since hylase can also break down the body’s own hyaluronic acid. A high level of experience is required for this treatment, which means you have come to the right place.
